"We are excited to be bringing the Mastro's experience to Weehawken!" That's the full announcement on the Mastro's coming-soon page for 1700 Harbor Boulevard. Under it, the page previews what will be served and says "Coming Soon." It gives no date.
Since May, the space at Lincoln Harbor has gone from a sudden closure to a construction site with new signage, and the public estimates of when it will reopen are a full season apart.
When Chart House closed in mid-May 2026, NJ.com called it "abrupt" and described it as one of Hudson County's most recognizable special-occasion restaurants, after decades on the Weehawken waterfront. The same article reported something that makes the closure look very different. Chart House and Mastro's are both owned by Landry's, Inc.
So the site was never put up for an outside operator. Landry's retired one of its brands at the address and lined up another. NJ.com reported in that same May article that the property was expected to undergo extensive renovations before reopening as a Mastro's.
The new tenant has a national profile. According to Hoboken Girl, Mastro's started in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1999 and now operates in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Jersey Digs reported that the brand runs about 20 restaurants nationwide and that Weehawken will be its first location in New Jersey. Hoboken Girl also noted that the company's website lists the Weehawken restaurant as a Mastro's Ocean Club.
Since the closure, the public reports have moved between 2027, no date at all, and this winter. In order:
The newest estimate, the sign, is also the earliest. All of these sources agree on the address and the brand. None of them commits to a date. The Mastro's page still says "Coming Soon" with no date beside it, so anyone hoping to book a holiday dinner there this year should wait for the company to post one.
Details of the renovation, such as seating capacity, square footage and any outdoor deck, have not been published.
An official Weehawken menu has not been released, according to Hoboken Girl, but the Mastro's page previews the offerings. It promises USDA Prime steaks, premium seafood and raw bar offerings, a seafood display, creative sushi, and desserts including the warm Butter Cake. Jersey Digs added more detail. Steaks are wet-aged for 28 days, cooked in a 1,500-degree broiler and served on a 450-degree plate, and Mastro's locations offer nightly music and entertainment, a tradition planned for Weehawken.
Compare that list with what already operates elsewhere on Harbor Boulevard.
Blu on the Hudson, at 1200 Harbor Blvd., opened in 2023. It describes its kitchen as built around steak, seafood, sushi and house-made pasta, with views of the New York City skyline and the Hudson River. Drift, at the same address, calls itself a modern American riverfront restaurant and sushi bar. Ruth's Chris Steak House is at 1000 Harbor Blvd.
When Mastro's opens, it won't introduce a new kind of dining to the Lincoln Harbor waterfront. It will be one more room serving steak, raw bar and sushi with a Manhattan view, on a strip where that is already the main format. What changes is the address. Jersey Digs noted that 1700 Harbor Blvd. has panoramic, unobstructed views of Midtown, and that the Chart House was known there as a "special occasion" spot. Jersey Digs reported that Mastro's will continue that tradition at the address.
Until 1700 reopens, the options for an anniversary, a visiting relative or a year-end dinner are close by.
Blu on the Hudson serves dinner Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., and lunch Wednesday through Friday from noon to 3:30 p.m. A weekday social hour runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Blu publishes a dress code on its website, so check it before a first visit.
Drift takes reservations through OpenTable or by phone at 201-430-8488.
Ruth's Chris at 1000 Harbor Blvd. lists current hours and reservations on its location page.
Beneci's D'Italia Cucina at 500 Harbor Blvd. covers a different occasion. It serves breakfast daily as well as later meals and takes reservations, so it suits a morning gathering.
All four share Harbor Boulevard with the former Chart House.
The Whole Foods Market at 1400 Waterfront Terrace is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Inside are Café Grumpy for coffee, Weehawken Pizza, and Kikka Sushi, so a grocery run can also cover lunch.
For getting across the river, NY Waterway runs the Lincoln Harbor ferry to Midtown at West 39th Street seven days a week. NJ TRANSIT's Lincoln Harbor station is a stop on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.
Taken together, the ferry, the light rail, the grocery store and the restaurants at 500, 1000 and 1200 Harbor Boulevard make up the everyday waterfront around 1700. If Mastro's carries its nightly music to Weehawken as planned, it will add an evening draw to that loop.
The next fixed date on the township's calendar comes before any confirmed restaurant opening. The Weehawken Tree Lighting is scheduled for Sunday, December 6, 2026, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to the Weehawken school district calendar. Until Mastro's posts a firm opening date, that is the waterfront's surest plan for early December.
