One of the last vacant parcels along the Hudson River in Weehawken that was in foreclosure just two years ago is now abuzz with construction activity as a new mixed-use complex is slated to fill a large gap along the waterfront.
WHK Waterfront Urban Renewal LLC recently announced that construction of its luxury waterfront development known as 1800 Avenue at Port Imperial in Weehawken has officially begun.

The 3.65-acre site was once owned by Hongkun USA, who won approvals to build a 282-unit mixed-use complex at the property. The company quickly ran into various financial troubles and the site fell into foreclosure in 2022. Despite the issues, the new ownership group has obtained $210 million in financing to move the project forward from Benefit Street Partners.
The project, which will see a total investment of $313 million, is still planned to be built the way Handel Architects designed it. Features of the future building include floor-to-ceiling glass as well as over 45,000 square feet of amenities like indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center and spa, basketball courts, golf simulators, a private screening room, and pet center.

Plaza Construction, one of the nation’s largest management and contracting firms, will be serving as general contractor on the project, which is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026.
